Esmeralda Carini is a Ph.D. candidate in the College of Education in the Curriculum and Instruction program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Her research interests include balanced literacy, use of formative literacy assessments to guide instructional decisions, and supporting teacher professional development. Esmeralda received her M.A. in Education with an emphasis in Reading K-12 from the University of Hawaii, Manoa and earned her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Education from the University of San Diego. She is currently the Literacy Content Specialist for Kailua Kalaheo Complex Area, Windward District. Her free time is spent volunteering with KaHuiHeluhelu, ocean swimming, and spending time with friends and family.
